Supporting steel producers around the world.
A network built on fifty years of trust, expertise, and global reach.
Founded in the early 1970s to distribute base metals in Europe on behalf of a leading South African producer, Gurta expanded over the years by acquiring agency agreements with major European ferroalloy producers.
In the mid-1980s, the company established and developed its own logistics operations in the La Spezia area. During the 1990s, it invested directly in ferroalloy production for the steel industry by acquiring a controlling interest in a Scandinavian group specializing in silicon-based alloys and by launching its own ferrochromium (FeCr) production in Zimbabwe.
More than fifty years after its foundation, Gurta remains one of Europe’s leading players in the non-ferrous metals and ferroalloys sector. The Group is also active in logistics, metallurgical production, and the circular economy through energy recovery from waste treatment.
